What Is Financial Freedom?

One of our speakers at Grow2020 was Garrett Gunderson, a real-life wealth & tax guru! He is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to finances, and he knows more than just how to find the best (and legal!) tax breaks for your company (and yourself!). What stuck out most from his presentations was...

Financial Freedom.

Everybody wants it, but it always seems to be a “grass is greener on the other side” situation. Most people seem to think that if your revenue is high enough, you must have financial freedom. The sad fact of the matter is that most people simply go from managing smaller quantities of income to managing larger quantities of income without a single change in their stress levels, or sense of success and financial freedom. Despite the increased revenue, they still feel bound by their bank account and credit cards.

Garrett spoke about how that stress and endless trapped feeling is based in an incorrect perception of what Financial Freedom is. As Stephanie always tells us, you can’t hit your goal if you can’t see it.

Until you know what financial freedom looks like, you’ll never achieve it. Which is why Garrett’s explanation of Financial Freedom is so helpful to small business owners.

Don’t get me wrong, dealing with larger quantities of money is usually a good sign. It probably means your business is doing well and growing!

But you can have massive profits and returns from your business and a massive revenue stream without being financially free if you aren’t setting up your life properly. Financial freedom isn’t about how much you make or how much you invest. Financial freedom stems from proper finance management and the right mindset.

As Garrett said,

“Financial Freedom is what happens when finances are not the primary consideration in business decisions.”

In other words, financial freedom is making decisions based on what will best help the business grow -- not on the money-aspect of the business. Money comes and goes. You will never become financially free by hoarding money in a bank account. If you can shift your mindset to understand that hoarded money won’t give you peace of mind, you’ll come that much closer to financial freedom. Remember that you can’t create financial freedom by storing a ton of unused money.

But you can create a business that trims down excess spending, finds tax breaks, and moves forward into growth without fear of loss. You can adjust your mindset and create an attainable goal for your financial freedom. And you can achieve financial freedom!

If this helped you in your business like it has helped me during my college education, you’re going to want to be in the room for Grow2021 next year. Stephanie constantly astounds me with the genius and insight in the speakers that she brings to the Grow Retreat attendees, and it’s well worth it to get your ticket in advance. Book your interview for the event here via email, or check out the website for this year’s completed Grow Retreat here if you’re curious to learn more.
